Slavery Memorial Committee Opens Office on St. Eustatius
On the evening of August 12th, the Slavery Memorial Committee officially opened its office on St. Eustatius. The ceremony marked an important step in structurally commemorating and discussing the history of slavery on the island and in the wider region.
Head of the St. Eustatius office Raimie Richardson emphasized the inner strength of emancipation and concluded his speech with a call for unity: “Let this memorial be a beacon, not only of remembrance, but also of strength. Let it remind us that our past is not a chain, but a stepping stone. And as we look ahead, let us walk forward with pride, purpose, and unity.”
